About Business

In 1963, Al Gidley sold new Chevrolets at a local car dealership. A customer came into the dealership to buy a new car. This customer only had a mobile home to trade for his new vehicle. The dealership owner wasn’t interested in accepting a trailer for a trade-in. Al knew the only way he was going to make the sale was if he purchased the trailer himself. So in 1963, with the trade-in of the trailer, this is how Al and Phyllis Gidley started their mobile home business on Route 28 in Salem, NH. Al moved the trailer to a narrow, vacant strip of land on Route 28 in Salem. He displayed the home and sold it immediately. Little did Al and Phyllis know that 50 years later this single transaction would be the genesis of a thriving, vertically integrated family business with over 15 employees.

Today, Salem Manufactured Homes sells homes throughout New England. From the early days of Al and Phyllis Gidley buying used trailers and fixing them up to sell. Today where we have sold over 2,500 homes, is a testament to our dedication to our business… and service to our customers.

The company is now run by Glenn Gidley who credits the success of the company to the management and business skills he had been taught at a very young age from his parents.

Due to our dedication to providing quality manufactured homes and developments to today’s buyers, Salem Manufactured Homes is now one of the most successful manufactured home retailers in the New England area.

As we move into the mid-point of our 6th decade, we welcome the 3rd generation of family members to be involved with our business. We would like to thank all of our customers, employees, and suppliers as we celebrate the beginning of a new era.
